Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to common questions about specialty plywood

A-grade has the smoothest surface for visible applications. B-grade allows minor defects. C and D grades are for structural use. Marine grade is for exterior/moisture exposure.
Hardwood plywood uses hardwood veneers (oak, birch, maple) and is ideal for furniture and cabinets. Softwood plywood uses pine/fir and is typically used for construction.
Store plywood flat, supported every 16 inches, in a dry location. Keep it off the ground, cover with plastic if needed, and maintain consistent humidity to prevent warping.
Only exterior-grade plywood with waterproof glue should be used outdoors. Marine grade offers the best moisture resistance. Interior plywood will delaminate in exterior conditions.
1/4 inch is standard for cabinet backs, 1/2 inch for shelves under 32 inches, and 3/4 inch for shelves over 32 inches or heavy loads. Consider the span and load requirements.
