About This Tool
Drawer Slide Calculator - Specifications and Mounting Requirements
Drawer slides need to match your drawer box dimensions and expected load, and the mounting method changes the clearance you need to leave on each side. This calculator recommends slide specs based on your drawer size and weight capacity requirements.
How to Use the Drawer Slide Calculator
- Drawer Width and Depth: Enter the outer dimensions of the drawer box, in inches
- Slide Type: Side-mount, undermount, or center-mount
- Weight Capacity: Choose 75, 100, or 150 lbs based on expected load
Slide Type Comparison
- Side-mount: The most affordable and easiest to install; needs about 1/2" clearance on each side of the drawer box
- Undermount: Hidden beneath the drawer for a cleaner look and typically soft-close; needs precise drawer box dimensions since there's almost no side clearance
- Center-mount: A single slide under the drawer center, common in older or budget cabinetry with lower weight capacity
Choose full-extension slides for drawers that need to open completely (like pot and pan drawers), and size up to the 150 lb rating for heavy-duty storage such as appliance or trash pull-outs. Once your slides are chosen, use the Drawer Box Calculator to finalize the box dimensions that will fit them.
