How to Use the Cabinet Door Hinge Calculator
- Door Width: Enter the door width in inches
- Door Height: Enter the door height in inches
- Door Thickness: Choose 3/4", 7/8", or 1" to match your door stock
- Hinge Type: Select concealed (European-style), butt, or piano hinges
Hinge Count and Placement Guidelines
- Doors up to 40" tall: 2 hinges
- Doors 40"-80" tall: 3 hinges
- Doors over 80" (tall pantry cabinets): 4 or more hinges
Concealed 35mm cup hinges are the standard on RTA and factory-built Shaker cabinets, giving fully adjustable, self-closing operation hidden inside the cabinet. Place the top and bottom hinges roughly 3-4 inches from each end of the door, with any middle hinges spaced evenly between them. Piano hinges run the full door length and are typically reserved for cabinets that need extra support, like tall pantry doors or fold-down fronts.
